things to do before your interview

Interview preparation is very important. The more prepared you are, the more likely you will get the job. Here are 4 things to do before your job interview:

Research about the company and the role

It is important that you learn as much as you can about the company before you turn up for your interview. What type of company is it? Who are its main competitors? How do they work – structure wise?

Having the answers to these questions and similar ones will help you during the interview. Also, learn about the role you applied for. What does the job entail? Have you worked in a similar role before? If not, try to learn as much as you can about it for the interview. You can go on the company website or check the profile of other employees to gain a better understanding. The more informed you are about the job and the company, the more comfortable you will be during the interview.

Prepare important questions to ask

From this research prepare important questions for the interviewer. Remember, this is a two-way interview – you are also there to see if the role is fit for you. So don’t just go there expecting to answer questions, prepare your own. Why? Because it shows that you have done your research, and therefore are interested in the company. And more importantly it’s empowering as you get your chance to ask the questions.

Check company location

Make sure you know the company’s location and calculate the time it would take to get there. If you are taking public transport, ensure the trains/buses you are taking are in service. You don’t want to be confused about where you are going an hour before the interview as this can raise stress level and have you entering the building nervous.

Choose the right outfit

Sometimes not feeling comfortable in what you are wearing can have a negative impact during the interview. If you feel the shoes or the suit you are wearing is not the right style or it doesn’t quite fit right, it can play in your mind and seriously distract from performing well. So prepare an outfit you feel comfortable in before the interview. It can make all the difference.
